Gary Jones has worked in many sectors of commercial horticulture, including turf/amenity parks, field vegetables, and mushrooms. Previously, he helped establish a commercial micro-propagation company producing nursery and herbaceous plants (particularly roses), spent 9 years with the UK Ministry of Agriculture Advisory Service (ADAS), had a short spell as ‘Technical Field Officer’ at a large wholesale salad marketing group, and enjoyed 6 years as ‘Technical Manager’ at the largest producer of bedding and potted plants in the UK. Gary was a member of the Steering

Committee of the British Ornamental Plant Producers (BOPP) quality assurance scheme and represented bedding plant growers on the Technical Committee of the British Bedding and Potted Plant Association (BBPA) before moving to Canada in 1999.

Gary teaches at the School of Horticulture, Kwantlen Polytechnic University and currently sits on the ‘Industry Development Council’ of the BC Greenhouse Growers Association. He has previously been part of the Certification Committee of BCARA organic certification body. Gary writes a monthly column (‘Inside View’) for ‘Greenhouse Canada’ magazine.

With Department colleagues he is working on setting up three new ‘sustainable horticulture’ degrees, and as President of the Langley Community Farmers Market Society, is currently working with local producers to build a strong community market that will help facilitate food security for the Langleys.
